Welcome to Clouds of Hope
Clouds of Hope is a children’s care centre in Woodford Road, just two minutes from the centre of Underberg, in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. We are home to 72 children, the youngest now 3 months and the oldest 20.
All of our children have been orphaned and legally placed in our care under the supervision of our qualified very own social workers and house Mom’s who provide them with a loving nurturing home.
If you would like to see for yourselves what we do, please contact Zesizwe Mncwabe our General Manager to arrange a visit.

Making a difference
Although our children come from seriously disadvantaged and sometimes harsh backgrounds, Clouds of Hope is not a sad place. It is a home, full of love and laughter, and sometimes with naughty children, just like yours and mine. We are always looking for volunteers for homework and many other tasks – so come and chat, meet our beautiful children and warm-hearted House Mums.
If you would like to donate in some way, whether with funds, contributions in kind, or time, please visit our Donate page.
Older children need special support when facing the move from their home at Clouds of Hope, to the new world of TVET, college or employment. Clouds has a “Halfway House” system on our property, supported by a generous German group called Be Your Own Hero (BYOH). At the Halfway House, the older children live in a carefully supervised environment and are provided with life-skills instruction such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting and working together collaboratively. Some of the children volunteer to help the younger children who are battling with homework, some of them complete computer skills courses through the local library, some find work in the community. There is a little funding available for tertiary education depending on the child’s ability. This funding includes tuition and accommodation costs.
Clouds remains the home of our children until they are self-supporting, just like in any other family. In most cases, Clouds is the only home the children have ever known, and they come back to visit over holidays and during work vacations. Once these young people are established in a life outside of Clouds, they are encouraged to give back, to help those children coming after them.
If you are able to assist us with providing work experience for our halfway house children or learnerships, please contact us!
